The artist’s masterstroke

It was a sight to behold, as heartbreaking as it was bold;

A mother lay under rubble, her body broken; already cold.

She clutched to her bosom a baby, umbilical cord attached,

The scene was surreal, poignant & emotional; yet detached.

The baby wailed in hunger, unmindful of the silence.

It was a picture of survival, an image of resilience.

Around them was devastation that an earthquake wreaked;

The mother and child were united, even though blood-streaked.

The artist’s masterstroke was a sculpture thus depicted.

Oh! He was a talented fellow, he was much respected.

He created bespoken art, true to life and form;

His art spoke to the soul, deviated from the norm.

His latest creation was a piece that would compel thought;

That a mother would protect, even against nature’s onslaught!

She would defy even her creator to shield her progeny, her child,

She would walk through hell & fire, endure rubble piled.

Of all of God’s creations that existed on this Earth,

The greatest was a mother & her love for what she did birth.

The sculpture evoked emotions, deep, unbidden and raw.

It made people stop, take note – Yes! Every single one that saw.

About Sonal Singh

I believe that life is a repertoire of anecdotes. The various situations that we encounter, the many incidents of every day, the people we meet, our conversations with them; all make life a melange of tales. And, that is what I attempt to capture through my writing. My cooking is no different! It reflects my love for travel and my love for innovation. The kitchen is my happy place. So, even though by vocation I am a recruiter (www.rianplacements.com), by passion I am a writer, home chef and a hodophile.
