The muted sounds of yesterday
Are no longer silent
I hear them over the somber
Veil of the day
The chirps, the caws and the cheeps
Are all clamoring
For their share of my attention
Am I not their mother?
Do only humans have a lien over me?
In the macabre quietude
That has descended, unprecedented
I now hear the voices
Of my lesser children, and yet
I wonder
Are they the lesser beings?
Or are they the lesser of the two evils?
