Jewels from the treasure trove + A big mystery for little Meena

Joint review of two books by Anamika Kundu

Book 1 Jewels From the Treasure Trove is an anthology of 35 short stories spanning genres: fantasy, drama, thriller, mystery, crime, horror, served like bite-sized delights at a literary banquet.

With no single thread binding them, each story arrives as a surprise, often ending in a satisfying twist.

Anamika’s writing is linear yet richly layered with imagery; her generous use of metaphors and rich vocabulary, lending a lyrical, almost poetic charm. Her vivid descriptions, especially of nature, immerse you effortlessly into each scene.

This book is a perfect companion for travel. Easy to pick up, easier to read through.

Book 2- A Big Mystery for Little Meena is a charming read that instantly transported me back to my childhood, reminiscent of Enid Blyton’s Famous Five and days spent in fauji camps.

Through the twin protagonists and their friends, we enter a world of innocent mischief and shenanigans that slowly deepens into a sinister mystery.

Anamika’s vivid imagery once again shines through. You can almost feel the desert heat, read the moods of the sand, and glimpse the lives of Rajasthan’s nomadic tribes, bound deeply to their land and cattle for sustenance.

Nostalgic, immersive, and quietly evocative, this book is perfect for young readers.

About Sonal Singh

An author, storyteller, and full-time observer of life’s glorious absurdities. I write humour-laced stories where chaos wears fluffy fur, emotions arrive uninvited, and middle-class Indian households become ecosystems of drama, love, and unsolicited advice. Armed with sarcasm, caffeine, and alarming emotional attachment to stray creatures, I believe compassion is less of a virtue and more of a lifestyle disorder. One that I embrace. When I’m not writing, I’m usually busy running a full-time HR consultancy business, rescuing animals, or trying to maintain dignity while being emotionally manipulated by my pets. Through my literary work, I try to blend humour with heart, celebrating the messy coexistence of humans and non-humans in modern urban India.
