It took someone like you

It took someone like you to bring out the someone in me.

It took someone like you to help me open my eyes to see,

That the only experience in life more beautiful even than life

Was the joy of motherhood and not the joy of being a wife.

When you came into my life mewling your way into my heart;

You fisted your hand on my finger and stole me from the start.

I gazed upon your face all cherubic pink and scrunched red

And I knew that between us no words needed to be said.

Know this my child, you are a piece of my being, my essence.

And, nothing in this world will ever compare of ever lessen.

The magnitude of love that I hold in my heart just for you,

Which grows and burgeons every day, building up anew.

About Sonal Singh

An author, storyteller, and full-time observer of life’s glorious absurdities. I write humour-laced stories where chaos wears fluffy fur, emotions arrive uninvited, and middle-class Indian households become ecosystems of drama, love, and unsolicited advice. Armed with sarcasm, caffeine, and alarming emotional attachment to stray creatures, I believe compassion is less of a virtue and more of a lifestyle disorder. One that I embrace. When I’m not writing, I’m usually busy running a full-time HR consultancy business, rescuing animals, or trying to maintain dignity while being emotionally manipulated by my pets. Through my literary work, I try to blend humour with heart, celebrating the messy coexistence of humans and non-humans in modern urban India.
