Swinging back to childhood

I spied a swing in the park today when I took my child out to play.

Oh! What memories it evoked. It left me feeling warm & stoked.

It took me right back to my childhood and time was till, yes it stood;

As I just stood there and gazed at it. Then I approached, went to sit.

The first shove lifted my feet off the ground, Oh Heart! the joy I found!

The swish and swoosh of the air as I swung to and fro in abandon’s lair.

My child looked at me mouth agape as she saw my hair on the ground trape.

She could not fathom the child in me, she’d never seen me so gay, be.

As I swung there for a time, flashes of memories played a jaunty mime.

They came and went in mind’s depth, left me feeling happy yet bereft.

Oh! What I would’ve done to just go back, to just have one more crack,

At a childhood that passed too soon, one that I enjoyed to the moon.

About Sonal Singh

An author, storyteller, and full-time observer of life’s glorious absurdities. I write humour-laced stories where chaos wears fluffy fur, emotions arrive uninvited, and middle-class Indian households become ecosystems of drama, love, and unsolicited advice. Armed with sarcasm, caffeine, and alarming emotional attachment to stray creatures, I believe compassion is less of a virtue and more of a lifestyle disorder. One that I embrace. When I’m not writing, I’m usually busy running a full-time HR consultancy business, rescuing animals, or trying to maintain dignity while being emotionally manipulated by my pets. Through my literary work, I try to blend humour with heart, celebrating the messy coexistence of humans and non-humans in modern urban India.
