My Jeans Fit Well & The Ice-Cream Didn’t Melt

My Jeans Fit Well & The Ice-Cream Didn’t Melt (The Illustrated Life of a Goofy Writer) by Manali Desai is a quirky book. Yes, there’s no other way to describe it. It is quirky (like the book’s title, which is actually what drew me), funny, crazy, hilarious, weird — all the aforementioned and yet still a relatable read.

The graphic book reflects Manali’s joy in the trivial mundanity of life. It also embodies a reflective tone wherein Manali muses about the things she sees around her, tries to make sense of others, and delves into topics that we often chalk up to ‘regular life’.

I found myself pausing, at times, nodding at others, to say, “Yep! Sounds relatable.”

Manali reminds us that happiness is not something we chase. It is something that we discover in everyday life, everyday things. Joy is not only an emotion. It’s a state of being. Joy does not need any grand gestures or planning. Joy can be found in almost everything, provided we open our hearts to seek it out.

This is a book about the simple pleasures of life. Manali does not gloss over details, sugar-coat truths. No, she says it like she feels it, and that’s something I admire. This book has a collection of almost 150+ simple joys, illustrated to enhance the reading pleasure.

About Sonal Singh

An author, storyteller, and full-time observer of life’s glorious absurdities. I write humour-laced stories where chaos wears fluffy fur, emotions arrive uninvited, and middle-class Indian households become ecosystems of drama, love, and unsolicited advice. Armed with sarcasm, caffeine, and alarming emotional attachment to stray creatures, I believe compassion is less of a virtue and more of a lifestyle disorder. One that I embrace. When I’m not writing, I’m usually busy running a full-time HR consultancy business, rescuing animals, or trying to maintain dignity while being emotionally manipulated by my pets. Through my literary work, I try to blend humour with heart, celebrating the messy coexistence of humans and non-humans in modern urban India.
