For my first guest ‘On Sonal’s Table’, a tête-à-tête on 16th feb 2021 at 7 pm IST, I have invited Dr Shivani Salil.

Who is she? What inspires her? How does she get her ideas? What has she got planned for 2021?

Ah, the list of questions is endless, is it not?

So, invite your friends and family, share the post and come join us as we chat with Dr Salil and ask her some innocent and some naughty questions. I bet the last part got your attention, didn’t it? Perhaps, you too have some questions that you would like answers to? If so, mention them as a comment to this post.

A brief introduction of Dr Shivani Salil

Dr Salil has an MD in Clinical Microbiology from Seth GSMC & KEM Hospital, Mumbai where she also worked as an Assistant Professor. A geographical move in 2018 let her take a much needed sabbatical and she decided to pursue a childhood passion – to be a writer. She has recently completed year-long, full time Masters in Fine Arts (Creative Writing) from Hong Kong University.

She has been blogging on a broad spectrum of issues, from parenting to health and relationships to philosophy in fiction and non-fiction format, across various platforms like Momspresso, Women’s Web, Mumbai Psychiatry Clinic, The Daily Brunch and SheThePeople. She also has a weekly space on the online portal, The Wonder Women World, called Saturdays with Shivani where she tries to connect with her day-to-day observations, experiences and musings hoping that they find their way to the readers. She also moonlights as a content writer and assists in creating contents for websites especially those related to health.

Her first book Hiraeth, published in August 2019 is a single author anthology with 24 stories written around the 1947 partition. The book was selected among the Top 100 Debut Novels for the year 2019-20 by Literatureslight & Criticspace Literary Journals. Dr Shivani was conferred the Literoma Naari Samman 2020 for her contribution to the field of literature.

In 2021 her first project has been to co-edit an anthology, 21 stories from ’21 which also has a story written by her. The paperback is being published by The Archaic House and is expected to be out in February 2021.

About Sonal Singh

An author, storyteller, and full-time observer of life’s glorious absurdities. I write humour-laced stories where chaos wears fluffy fur, emotions arrive uninvited, and middle-class Indian households become ecosystems of drama, love, and unsolicited advice. Armed with sarcasm, caffeine, and alarming emotional attachment to stray creatures, I believe compassion is less of a virtue and more of a lifestyle disorder. One that I embrace. When I’m not writing, I’m usually busy running a full-time HR consultancy business, rescuing animals, or trying to maintain dignity while being emotionally manipulated by my pets. Through my literary work, I try to blend humour with heart, celebrating the messy coexistence of humans and non-humans in modern urban India.
